Whale (High-Spending Fan)

A subscriber who spends $500+/month — the top 1-3% by revenue.

What it means in detail

A "whale" is industry slang for a subscriber who spends significantly more than average — typically $500+/month, often $1,000-$5,000/month on a single creator. Whales make up 1-3% of subscribers but often generate 30-50% of total revenue. Recognising whales early and giving them VIP treatment (faster DM replies, exclusive content) protects the relationship.

Examples

  • Subscriber pays $9.99 base, then $800/mo in PPV + customs
  • Top 5 whales = 40% of monthly revenue for many creators
